Be My Valentine Series #5 | Ignoring the Valentine's Day Hype

Untitled #28

Our Plans for Valentine's Day
Pressure & stress-free

Recently I've posted a lot about Valentine's Day looks and outfits, but I hardly talked about what I'm doing to do on this "special day". Well, the truth is we're doing absolutely nothing. Yup, nothing whatsoever. Why? Well, simply because the hype around Valentine's Day is a little crazy. Don't get me wrong, its fun to dress up
, go out on dates, spend time together, or buy presents for that special someone. But take a second to think about this, shouldn't you be doing that every single day of the year? Shouldn't you show your love to each other 24/7 and not when every other couple is spending time together? I don't know about you, but I would rather have 364 days of special moments rather than having 1 where everybody is trying to have the "perfect day".

So, we decided to ditch the chalk heart candy (thank God), ditch the overpriced gifts, heck we're not even going to say Happy Valentines Day. Instead, we are treating today like Friday. Because... well.. it is :)

Giving to Others
You'll feel 100 times happier giving rather than getting

Ever since 10th grade, I thought of Valentine's Day as a special day to give to others, sure I should do this every day, but there's something special about sending anonymous baskets of goodies to people without significant others.

I thought of this idea when I noticed my neighbor didn't have anyone to spend Valentine's Day with [ she and her husband recently split up ] and I wanted to do something to cheer her up. After some long thought, I decided to make her an anonymous box of homemade cupcakes. She loved them but the best part was knowing that I made someone's day a happy one.
From that day on I got a thrill giving to others whether it was leaving flowers on all neighbors door knobs or making homemade treats I try to do random acts of kindness for strangers and I think everyone should do this, not just on the holidays but... every day.

»  This year I challenge you to ignore the hype, have fun, and give randomly to others :)

P.S. Have you seen the Google homepage? I think it's so cute to hear everyone's different stories.

  2. Great post Sierra. Finally a valentines day post with heart, I agree with your sentiments, but I did do a bit of a celebration with my hubby, it has been 30 years afterall! But I agree about giving, and giving back, and that is something I try to do everyday. Love your graphics, by the way!

  3. THAT was so nice what you did! I bet she enjoyed them. I like doing stuff for people every day also. I did go out to dinner on Valentine's Day. I enjoyed myself. I don't get caught up in to like it or not. Just go with the flow and do what you want on that day. LOL

  6. Cute post! The Mister and I don't really get into the whole Valentine's Day thing either.... I would rather get surprized on any other day of the year than have to expect something on V Day.... it just seems so forced.

  7. I agree, Valentine's Day should be about celebrating with not just your partner but everyone you love! What a great gesture you did for your neighbour :)

  8. Oh wow 30 years! That's amazing and inspiring because so many couples take the time they spend together for granted. I'm so happy for you guys and your comment really made me smile Elle.

  9. I know right, plus it's weird because literally EVERY couple is out doing things to "prove" their love for each other. I would rather have a special day rather than one for everybody.. haha, if that make sense :)

  10. Lol, I know right! I don't think its bad to go out or have fun on the 14th, I just don't get why some people stress so much about it! And I'm glad that you had a great time going out :D
