Preventing Campus Crimes with SABRE

You've probably been told to never put your drink down, or to never leave your expensive belongings laying around your dorm. But stopping campus rape and theft will take more than the following a few simple rules. Thefts and rapist are getting smarter and so should we if we want to lower the statics and prevent campus crimes.

Before we can discuss different ways to stay safe on campus we have to inform ourselves how serious the situation is. Below are a few facts about campuses in America.

Important Facts to Remember

  • More than 20% of the more than 12 million women expected to attend college this year will be a victim of sexual assault
  • The 2014 Presidential Task force estimates that more than 10,000 college students will experience aggravated assault or robbery each year on college campuses
  • Law enforcement calls September and October, the first two months of school, the “Red Zone”. These two months have the highest amount of injuries, accidents, and deaths than any other time of the year. During these crucial first two months of school, it is essential for students to be extra cautious as they taking night classes or while learning the campus layout.

Although, these statistics seem quite alarming, companies like SABRE are taking the first step to prevent crimes and lower these horrific stats. How are they preventing campus crimes from accruing? By being on a mission to educate college-aged students and empower them to take control of their own personal security. From pepper spray to personal dorm alarms SABRE products are the leading provider for personal safety tools worldwide. They are also known as the #1 trusted choice of law enforcement professionals, and today I will be sharing my experience with SABRE products and show you how to use them.

Ever since I was a little girl my parents taught me the importance of staying safe and how I should always be aware of my surroundings. At the young age of 8 I was signed up for karate class and learned how to protect myself, but I always had a thought in the back of my head, "what if I'm asleep, or unaware of my intruder?" This question was the only one that kept me up at night as I counted down to the day I would be living on my own. But after I learned about SABRE I found three simple ways to be prepared, not scared.

#1. Using SABRE Practice Pepper Spray and Pepper Gel

I'm sure we've all heard about pepper spray, but do you know how to properly use it? In movies they show the victim spraying at their attacker and running away, which seems simple enough, but is that how you're suppose to use Pepper Spray? No! You're suppose to spray going side to side rather than keeping in a idle position. But don't worry if you need a little help learning this technique. SABRE makes a product called Practice Spray so you will know exactly what to do when someone is attacking you.

Above are two products from SABRE. One is their Practice Pepper Spray and the other is the Maximum Strength Pepper Gel. And yes, the packaging for the second one is pink, but don't let this little guy fool you. It's extremely POWERFUL!

#2 Installing SABRE Home Series Door/Window Alarm

Next is the Window/Door Alarm. I like this little guy because it's easy to install and activate. All you have to do is stick it on your window (or door) with provided adhesive tabs, flip the switch to the "chime" or "alarm" setting, and close the tab once your done. It only takes a few seconds to install but provides safety for a extended amount of time. I tried this out on my window and it's at the perfect volume to scare off any attackers or alert others around you.

#3 Adding Sabre Home Series Door Stop Alarm

Last but not least, the SABRE Door Stop Alarm. This alarm was invented to keep you safe and sound while your sleeping. Simply put the door stopper next to your dorm or hotel door to be to prevent break ins. How does this prevent people from breaking an entry? If anyone tries to sneak in the button on the door stopper will press down and a loud alarm will go off. This alarm will alert everyone on your floor and scare away the intruder.

Even though living on your own can be intimidating and scary you can prevent campus crimes by staying informed and remembering to “be prepared, not scared”
