5 Ways to Become a Morning Person

Wednesday, November 1

Waking up at the crack of dawn can be difficult, but these 5 tips can help your early morning wake-up call be a little less stressful. How? Well, when I use to work at my full-time job I had to wake up every morning at 4 a.m. to eat, workout, shower, and catch the 6:30 a.m city bus. Some days I didn't wake up on time and had to call a UBER in a stressful panic. After doing this a few times and watching my bank account shrink (UBER is expensive Y'all!) I finally learned how to wake up early with these 5 tips. I tried everything in this post for a month and after 30 days my body finally learned how to wake up before the sun.

1. Turn off all electronics before bed.
I can't begin to stress how important it is to turn off EVERYTHING before bed. In a time where we're constantly attached to electronics, it's important to get a break from them. Turning off your phone or TV before you go to bed can help you sleep better and sleeping better will make waking up easier.

2. Wake up everyday at the same time.
The key word is everyday, that's including the weekends and holidays. Your body needs to wake up every day at the same time so it can create a natural routine. Our bodies love routines. Did you know the leading cause to waking up grumpy is due to constantly wake up at different times?

3. Open the blinds or turn on lights when you wake up.
As soon as your feet hit the floor head straight for the blinds or lights. Doing this will help your body know it's time to get started with your day and instantly get you away from checking your phone.

4. Add exercise to your morning routine.
Working out gives our bodies the energy it needs to get through the day and helps wake you up. I like to go for a quick run in the fall or do Turbo Jam (yup I'm old school) every summer to get a good workout in. Just remember everyone is different whenever you're trying to establish a workout routine. Find something that works for you and stick to it for at least 15 minutes per day.

5. Eat a healthy breakfast.
Try to avoid using coffee as a crutch to start your day, instead opt for a healthy smoothie! If you're in a rush in the morning I highly suggest making pre-packaged smoothie bags once a week and freeze them. Typically, if I'm not in a rush I like to sit down with Dan (my boyfriend) and have a lovely homemade breakfast before I start my day. We like eating a nutritious breakfast that's packed with whole grains, fruit, and protein.

Hope these tips/life hacks help you on your journey of becoming a morning person, waking up early takes a lot of discipline, but I promise the feeling of starting your day early is totally worth it! If you've enjoyed this post and would like more please feel free to leave a comment below!!
